Election Administration

Overview

The Auditor's Office is responsible for administering Federal, State, and County elections. These duties include the maintenance of the Voter Registration System, candidate filing, training of election judges, providing oversight on polling place issues for all precincts, ordering ballots and supplies for all precincts, tabulation of election night results, and conducting canvassing. 

2024 Elections:

  • Caucus-- Precinct caucuses will be held on February 27, 2024, one week before the Presidential Nomination Primary. You will be able to find your caucus location with the Caucus Finder starting February 7.
  • March 5th- Presidential Nomination Primary (PNP) .
    • Absentee period: January 19-March 4th. Mon-Fri 8-4; Saturday March 3rd, 9-3; & Monday March 4th, 8-5. Absentee ballots can be returned any time during business hours and through 8pm on Election Day at the Auditor-Treasurer's office located at: 202 W 3rd Street, Winona, MN 55987. Winona County does not have drop boxes. You must mail your ballot using the envelopes provided or hand carry it to the Auditor-Treasurer's office. Ballots left in the county drop boxes will be rejected by Ballot Board. To request an absentee ballot for the PNP, fill out this application or request a ballot online.
    • Public Accuracy Test for equipment will take place at the County Office Building located at 202 W 3rd Street, Winona, MN 55987, on Tuesday, February 12th at 2:15 pm.

  • March 12th - March Township elections
    • Townships that have March elections include: Elba Twp, Fremont Twp, Hart Twp, Hillsdale Twp, Homer Twp, New Hartford Twp, Norton Twp, Pleasant Hill Twp, Richmond Twp, Rollingstone Twp, St. Charles Twp, Utica twp, Warren Twp, Wilson Twp, & Wiscoy Twp.
    • Absentee voting for March township elections is administered by the Township Clerks. They will be open from 10-12 Saturday, March 9th.
  • August 13th - Primary Election
  • November 5th - General Election
