Overview
The Winona County Surveyor is responsible for the restoration and perpetuation of over 2000 corner monuments of the Public Land Survey System in Winona County and determines modern measurements between these monuments. These corners were originally established between 1853 and 1855 with mostly wood posts. These modern measurements will lead to the accurate dimensioning of our parcel mapping.
Our office also checks and approves all subdivision plats, registered land surveys, and common interest community plats for compliance with Minnesota Statutes and local ordinances. The Winona County Surveyor will work with private surveyors and reimburse them for collaborative time on restoring Winona County Public Land Survey corners per the county's remonumentation policy.
Under county ordinances, all surveys must be filed in the County Surveyor's office and any new land split requires a survey, which must be filed in the County Recorder's office as well.
