Food waste or food loss is food that is wasted, lost or uneaten. The causes of food waste or loss are numerous and occur at the stages of producing, processing, retailing, and consuming. Up to 40% of our food is wasted globally each year. That is the equivalent of a family of four throwing out $1,500 each year.
